I started this blogpost with the dual goal of promoting awareness on global warming and planting trees across different areas in the world.

So, you might wonder why did I call this fundraiser - 2 Degrees Fahrenhiet ?

Did you know that the Earth's average temperature has increased about 2 degrees Fahrenheit during the 20th century. Two degrees may sound like a small amount, but it's an unusual event in our planet's recent history. Earth's climate record, preserved in tree rings, ice cores, and coral reefs, shows that the global average temperature is stable over long periods of time. Furthermore, small changes in temperature correspond to enormous changes in the environment. For example, at the end of the last ice age, when the Northeast United States was covered by more than 3,000 feet of ice, average temperatures were only 5 to 9 degrees cooler than today. Although, there are multitude of ways you can help combat climate change, planting trees is the best strategy humanity has in cleansing the atmosphere of green house gases. Other technology like direct-air capture or CO2 separation have proven to be comparatively ineffective and far exceed the costs of just planting more trees. Planting a billion hectares worth of trees could reduce the 30+ billion tonnes of excess carbon in our atmosphere by two-thirds - levels not observed since industrialization began in the mid-1800s! I have chosen, One Tree Planted which is a non-profit focused on global reforestation. They work with amazing partners around the world who need financial support to get more trees in the ground. They help plant trees across North America, Latin America, Africa and Asia, in areas that have been devastated by natural disasters, damaged by insects and diseases, or over-exploited for commercial gain.

We need to plant more trees... it really is that simple.

We need  more trees... it really is that simple.      What make our planet special is its ability to support life - something it has done for over three and a billion years. One of the main elements that allows for this special ability present nowhere in the universe (as far as we know) is trees. What makes trees special is how they work, absorbing carbon dioxide from our atmosphere using the carbon and then releasing the oxygen - basically they're "giant vacuum bags completely stuffed full of carbon" (Mark Rober).       Sadly, trees are being cut down at astonishing rates with up to 7 billion of what is essentially our planets lungs being chopped down each year - this needs  to change (Rainforest Action Network). No; Just Because There Is Still Cold Weather Doesn't Mean Climate Change Isn't Real.

See, weather is a term used to describe the temperature, environmental conditions, precipitation, etc. of a short period of time, be it a day, week, month, or season -- nothing long term. Climate change on the other hand looks and vast stretches of time, from the dawn of the very planet humans (and life as we know it) call home to today. A better way to encompass climate change is with this statement by Weather.com: "The answer lies in 140 years of climate data, not tomorrow's forecast." Whilst it is true that 2021 has seen some unusually cold weather in some places (when compared to recent years) it still doesn't account for the gradual increase in the earth's average temperature -- some 0.15 degrees Fahrenheit or a little more than -17 degrees Celsius per decade since 1901 according to the EPA.  This gradual increase in temperatur
